Shwe Dagon Pagoda is the most sacred and
impressive Buddhist site for the people of the Myanmar. Shwe Dagon Pagoda is
covered with hundreds of gold plates and the top of the stupa is encrusted with
4531 diamonds; the largest of which is a 72 carat diamond. Shwe Dagon Pagoda is
a repository of the best in Myanmar heritage – architecture, sculpture and
arts. The Shwe Dagon Pagoda consists hundreds colorful temples, stupas, and
statues that reflects the architectural era spanning almost a 2,500 years.
When visiting Shwe Dagon Pagoda, visitors
should dress appropriately clothes. The four entrances to the pagoda have
signs prohibiting short dresses, and staff will help people change to longyi
and full-length dresses before entering, please follow the dress code - wear
trousers or at least knee length shorts or skirt; t-shirts with elbow length
sleeves are also expected and you are expected to be barefooted when entering
Shwe Dagon Pagoda.
Shwe Dagon Pagoda is open daily.

Opening Hours: 04:00 - 22:00 hours, except
on the following days that Shwe Dagon Pagoda is open 24 hours:
1. Waxing Day of Ta-baung – the day before
full moon day of the Myanmar Lunar month Ta-baung (around March)
2. Waxing Day of Wa-khaung – the day before
full moon day of the Myanmar Lunar month Wa-khaung (around June which is the
beginning of the Buddhist Lent)
